Nearly 13 years ago a group of concerned parents in Burlington County, New Jersey started volunteering with teens, working with local schools and community organizations to help prepare teens for life beyond high school. We started by hosted College Fairs, Campus Tours, Financial Literacy Workshops, and the always-packed Student Summits. We've touched the lives of nearly 4,000 families since then and students that attended our programs have been accepted to more than 25 colleges and universities across the country.

Should U.S. give a free pass to countries that use child soldiers?

As a humanitarian worker, a child protection expert, and as a U.S. citizen, I have certain expectations — some call them naive ideals — that the U.S. government will work to reduce the vulnerability of children around the world and here in the United States.

French first baby already a winner in the geographic lottery

Maybe you’re like me: You have a sudden feeling of joy every time you hear of a baby being born, or a newly announced pregnant mother-to-be. Two months ago, I sat in the hospital, awaiting the birth of my new nephew, ready to hear the sweet melody of “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” that’s played each time a baby is born.

What do the World Cup and Olympics Have to do with Human Rights Violations?

Sometimes, quite a bit.  Did you know that in Beijing alone, over 1.25 million people were forcibly displaced from their homes to make way for Olympics-related development in the lead-up to the 2008 Games?

What will happen to my child when I’m gone?

A story in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review about the challenges inherent in the increasing numbers of young people living with autism features a picture of 20-year-old Tony Mambuca-Capanzzi and his mom, Marie Mambuca. Short Organization Description:
ChildSafe is Bexar County's only children's advocacy center working to restore dignity, hope, and trust to children traumatized by abuse or neglect. ChildSafe provides a broad array of services designed to help the abused child and the supportive family members see themselves as survivors rather than victims.

If your child made an outcry of abuse, wouldn’t you want the investigation, prosecution, and intervention services to be handled in a manner sensitive to the needs of a child?

Prior to the establishment of ChildSafe, a child’s outcry of abuse in San Antonio and Bexar County didn’t necessarily mean the hurt was over. For many young victims, it often meant the beginning of a stressful, scary, and difficult journey through the adult-minded criminal and civil justice systems.
