Residents from the Orlando area are committed to rescuing Haitian families who call garbage-filled swamps “home.” Central Florida residents interested in Haiti’s rebuilding process are encouraged to attend Food For The Poor’s 12th annual fundraising event, A Celebration of Hope, Nov. 12, at Buena Vista Palace Hotel & Spa. Proceeds from the annual Orlando gala have built homes for more than 586 families.

Mi-Wuk Village man, former Marine, to pedal across U.S.

Former U.S. Marine Tim Tuomey started a test run Monday for his upcoming cross-country bicycle trip.
Tuomey has enlisted two friends on a bike and in a follow car on the 132-mile stretch from Lee Vining to Tonopah, Nev.
“It’s a really good test piece,” the 45-year-old said Friday from his Mi-Wuk Village home.
Tuomey and his wife, Keverne, split their time between the mountains and San Francisco, where Keverne owns an art shop.

Riders from SFF’s Jinx McCain Horsemanship Program to participate in Horse Cutting Classic 2

Nokesville, VA — As a part of Semper Fi Fund’s Jinx McCain Horsemanship Program, the Semper Fi Fund will be sending ten select wounded Marines from the Marine Corps’ Wounded Warrior Regiment (WWR) once again to participate in the Wounded Warrior Cutting Horse Classic at the D & M Cattle Company in Nokesville, Virginia. During this weeklong event, riders will enhance their horsemanship skills and be given the opportunity to strengthen themselves in their recoveries, both physically and mentally.

Runners hit the pavement for injured service members at the Long Beach Marathon

Long Beach, CA – Runners from all over California will take part in “California’s original and most scenic marathon” Sunday, and raise money and awareness for wounded Marines while they are at it.
Semper Fi Fund will have 30 Community Athletes running and raising money on its behalf as well as a 16-members from the Fund’s Team Semper Fi taking part in the event. Semper Fi Fund hopes to reach their goal of raising $5,000 through the Long Beach Marathon by asking its Community Athletes to fundraise a minimum of $200 each.

Marines Hike for One Mission

North Carolina – A group of U.S. Marines are going above and beyond in what they are calling “the journey for injured Marines.”
Fortunate Sons, a group of 18 active-duty Marines, are planning to collectively hike the entire 1,000-mile North Carolina Mountains-to-Sea Trail” (MST) in the name of both charity and awareness. The 42-day journey begins October 2nd at Clingman’s Dome in the Great Smokey Mountains and ends at Jockey’s Ridge on the Outer Banks on Veterans Day weekend, November 13.

Huntington Beach, CA – Mackey’s Hot Rods Inc. is turning a love of hot rods into a way to thank our service men and women for all their sacrifices. This Sunday they will be hosting an Open House and Car Show and charity raffle from noon to 5:00 PM. All of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
